Common English Name : Bupleurum

Taste : Bitter, slightly acrid

Common Usages:

This herb is used in formulas to treat colds with chest congestion and alternating chills and fevers and other respiratory illnesses that are at a superficial level in the body; also used to treat many imbalances of the Liver and Gallbladder, including hepatitis and cirrhosis; and to strengthen digestive and metabolic functions (TCM: internal heat, Liver fire, Spleen deficiency, and stagnant Liver Qi).

 

Traditional Usages and Functions:

Resolves lesser Yang heat patterns; relaxes constrained Liver Qi; raises Yang Qi in cases of Spleen or Stomach Deficiency.

Common Formulas Used In:

Bupleurum and Dragon Bone; Bupleurum, Inula, and Cyperus; Bupleurum and Tang Gui; Cimicafuga; Ginseng and Astragalus; Minor Bupleurum; Rehmannia and Magnetitum; Rhubarb and Scutellaria.
